How to add an Instagram feed to your theme

All of our themes make it easy to display your Instagram feed on your website.

The plugin we recommend using to display your Instagram feed is called Instagram Feed. This is one of the recommended plugins for the theme.

How to connect your Instagram account

Once you have installed and activated the Instagram Feed plugin, you will see a new option in the left-hand menu of WordPress called Instagram Feed. Click on this to open up the settings for this plugin.

In order for this plugin to work, you will need to connect your Instagram account to the plugin. To do this, click on Connect an Instagram Account on the plugin settings page.

You’ll then be taken over to Instagram. If you aren’t already logged in to your Instagram account you will need to do this first. If you are already logged in you will be asked to authorise access to your Instagram account. Just click Authorize.

You’ll then be taken back to the Instagram settings page in your WordPress admin area and you will see that your Instagram account is now connected to your website.

You don’t need to touch any of the other settings on this page as we will set up these settings on the widget itself in a moment. So once you’ve added your Instagram account, click on Save Changes at the bottom of the page.

How to set up the Instagram widget

Now that you have connected your Instagram account to the plugin, it’s time to set up the Instagram widget.

To do this, hover over Appearance in the left-hand menu of WordPress and click Widgets.

This will take you to the widgets page. Here you will see two widget areas, but the one we are interested in right now is the Instagram widget area.

Click on the + icon to see a list of blocks available to use. Use the search bar to find the Custom HTML block and add this into the widget area.

You then need to paste in a shortcode into the content area of this block. We have already created these shortcodes for you so you don’t have to. The shortcode you need to use will depend on which theme you are using:

Thrive

To show 9 Instagram pictures use this shortcode:

[instagram-feed imageres=full num=9 cols=3 imagepadding=0 showheader=false showbutton=false showfollow=false]

To show 6 Instagram pictures use this shortcode:

[instagram-feed imageres=full num=6 cols=3 imagepadding=0 showheader=false showbutton=false showfollow=false]

Shine

[instagram-feed imageres=full num=6 cols=6 imagepadding=0 showheader=false showbutton=false showfollow=false]

Flourish

[instagram-feed imageres=full num=6 cols=6 imagepadding=0 showheader=false showbutton=false showfollow=false]

Bloom

[instagram-feed imageres=full num=6 cols=3 imagepadding=0 showheader=false showbutton=false showfollow=false]

Aspire

[instagram-feed imageres=full num=6 cols=6 imagepadding=0 showheader=false showbutton=false showfollow=false]

After adding in your shortcode, your widget should look something like this:

You don’t need to add in a title for this widget.

Click Save at the bottom of the widget and previewed your Instagram feed on the front-end of your website.
